Tucked just off the beaten path, The Squirrel’s Nest is filled with things handmade by us—from our pottery and colorful gnomes to loose-leaf teas, soaps, candles, honey, and plenty of White Squirrel creations. Wander the shelves, see what’s fresh from the kilns, and discover something you won’t find just anywhere. There’s always something new being made, fired, blended or poured and finding its way into the shop. Come find the squirrel and discover one of Oberlin’s most unique shopping destinations! Step inside White Squirrel Clayworks for a behind-the-scenes look at where our pottery is made! Tour our working studio, learn how our pieces go from clay to finished pottery, see our tools, kilns, glazing areas, and more.
Studio tours are just $5 per person. Each attendee will receive a unique White Squirrel Ornament to keep as a souvenir or redeem for $5 toward a purchase in The Squirrel’s Nest on the day of the tour. So if you decide to shop while you’re here, your $5 tour admission comes right back to you!

Our Story
White Squirrel Clayworks is a husband-and-wife team based in Oberlin with a deep love of nature, animals, and handmade craftsmanship. After many years of collecting and enjoying handmade pottery, Kim and Jack decided to become potters themselves, launching White Squirrel Clayworks in 2018.
What began as a small basement studio has grown into a creative team of makers, artists, and staff who help bring White Squirrel Clayworks products to life every day. Together, the White Squirrel Clayworks team creates pottery and goods designed to bring a little warmth, creativity, and connection to everyday life.
Nature and the peaceful outdoors are a direct inspiration behind much of our work and the heart of what we create. The name “White Squirrel Clayworks” comes from Oberlin’s well-known colony of white squirrels, which inspired both our business name and many of the squirrel-themed pieces loved by locals and visitors alike.
All of our pottery is handmade, dishwasher safe, and microwave safe, blending functional everyday use with artistic design.
Sustainability is also an important part of our studio. We strive to use sustainable materials and green energy whenever possible in the creation of our products. In addition to pottery, we also offer handcrafted soaps and candles made from renewable resources and free of animal-derived ingredients. (Products containing honey or beeswax are clearly noted as vegetarian-friendly alternatives.)
